What's it about?
Most of us strive for a healthy lifestyle. A vital body is the result we hope for through healthy eating and exercise. However, it is often not easy to achieve this, especially if we do not know what our ideal weight should be, based on our height. To understand your own body a little better, you can calculate your ideal weight using the Body Mass Index. You can find out how to calculate BMI and what information you can get from it here. If you are interested, stay tuned and get informed.
The BMI
1. what exactly is a body mass index?
Body Mass Index, abbreviated BMI, is the weight of a person measured in kilograms in relation to height. This value is calculated by dividing the body mass of a person by the height in square metres.
The result of the Body Mass Index can be used to provide information about weight categories. However, it must be mentioned here that the Body Mass Index is not sufficient for a diagnosis of a person's state of health.
2. what is the ideal weight?
As already briefly explained, the evaluation of your Body Mass Index allows you to find out what condition your body is in, i.e. whether your weight is the ideal weight, whether you are overweight or underweight.
To calculate your BMI, use the following simple formula to get information about your weight:
BMI = body weight [kg] / (height [m])²
Alternatively, you can use our BMI calculator below.
5. calculate BMI: What are the differences between women and men?
As is so often the case, the values of women and men differ, which can be attributed to the physique. Basically, men have more muscle mass than women. They also differ in height and stature. For this reason, when calculating BMI, you can expect the values to be a little higher. Age also plays a decisive role in the calculation of the Body Mass Index.
As you have already found out, the Body Mass Index is the quickest way to assess whether your body weight is the ideal weight and if not, what you can work on if necessary. However, you should bear in mind that many factors are not taken into account when calculating BMI, such as your stature and fat distribution. Also, the percentage of your muscle mass is not included in the calculation, which is why you cannot always expect a correct result. As you can see, this is one of the problems when talking about Body Mass Index.
